Conor McGilligan has been speaking about long-term Leeds United transfer target Adama Traore.

Leeds have long been linked with the speedy Spanish winger even during Marcelo Bielsa’s time at the club and this was largely seen to be because of Victor Orta and the strong relationship he has with Traore.

Orta was the man that signed Traore for Middlesbrough and allowed him to establish himself as a talent in England playing 61 times and racking up 16 goal involvements it appears that the winger is set for a move in 2023 and Leeds are one of the teams being tipped to sign him.

McGilligan was speaking on his YouTube channel about the links between Traore and Leeds emerging once more.

(5:25) “Leeds have been the favourites to sign Adama Traore for about two seasons now and if you look at the betting odds, Leeds were always the favourites but apparently, there is now another club looking at Adama Traore.

Do you want Leeds to sign Traore?

Yes!

Yes!

No!

No!

“We hear this every single time but it is Napoli who have knocked Leeds out of the way when it comes to being the favourites, obviously, Leeds were always the favourites because Orta signed Traore at Middlesbrough, Orta is a massive fan of Adama Traore and he’s set to leave Wolverhampton Wanderers in the summer and apparently Leeds are his most likely destination.”

TIF Thoughts Leeds’ interested in Traore…

Given that Leeds don’t necessarily play with natural wingers under Jesse Marsch, hence the struggles of someone such as Jack Harrison this season, they tend to play more inverted, so signing Traore would make very little sense.

This was a low point in Leeds United's history, but how many points did they get in the 2003/04 campaign?

Traore went out on loan to Barcelona last January and failed to impress so the Catalonia giants didn’t sign him permanently and the winger’s stock has plummeted in recent seasons which will now see him become a free agent in the summer.

The Spaniard would certainly bring speed and an unpredictable nature to Leeds’ game, but he would not be bringing end product as he’s got just eight league goal involvements since the start of the 2020/21 season. which has seen him experience a major fall from grace as he was labelled ‘devastating’ by TalkSPORT’s Andy Townsend (via Molineux News) earlier in the year.
