Conor McGilligan has been left downbeat by the news that Leeds United transfer target Matheus Cunha could well end up elsewhere.
Cunha has long been linked with a move to Elland Road and recently it was suggested that the Whites were in the race for the Atletico Madrid forward.
However, it noted the competition that Victor Orta could face in the battle to secure his signature.
Aston Villa, Everton and Wolves have all also been credited with an interest and it appears that the west Yorkshire outfit have lost ground.
Fabrizio Romano has claimed that the Old Gold are in discussions with the 23-year-old’s current employers over a proposed transfer and reacting to the news McGilligan simply said on Twitter: ‘More pain.’
TIF Thoughts on Cunha and Leeds…
Do you see Leeds signing Cunha at any point?YesNo |
The Brazilian’s former manager at Hertha Berlin, Bruno Labbadia, previously said that he had ‘something special, but after 24 direct goal involvements in the Bundesliga, he hasn’t exactly progressed in Spain.
Only 11 of his 54 appearances have seen him in from the start and that has stifled his seemingly development.
Despite his limited game time, he has managed seven goals and eight assists in 1,758 minutes.
It’s a steady return given the restricted chances Diego Simeone has given him but it could be that Jesse Marsch isn’t afforded the opportunity to hand Cunha a lifeline if Romano’s latest update is anything to go by.
