Journalist Ben Jacobs has claimed that it will be ‘impossible’ for Cristiano Ronaldo to join Chelsea this winter.

The Portuguese attacker had a World Cup to forget as he was benched for the final two games of their tournament and now finds himself without a club – as only a few teams remain keen on signing him.

Ronaldo reportedly has a monster offer on the table from Saudi Arabian outfit Al-Nassr, which would suggest he’s looking to wind down his career before retiring while playing outside of a top European league.

Meanwhile, reports have suggested Chelsea could move for the free agent, but Jacobs has denied those rumours on The Football Terrace YouTube channel.

He said: “Graham Potter, who’s already under pressure, still new to the job, inherits the Ronaldo circus – and he’s seen what that does to Portugal, he’s seen what that’s done to Ten Hag, he’s seen what that’s done to Ralf Rangnick.

Should Chelsea sign Ronaldo?

Yes!

Yes!

No!

No!

“Why would he, as a non-Mourinho-type personality and manager, and someone himself stepping up and trying to prove himself at Chelsea, take the personal risk? Because if it doesn’t work out with Ronaldo, then Graham Potter is under even more stress, under even more pressure, and he’s got another headache to deal with in the dressing room.

“And that’s why I think it is highly, highly unlikely – if not now impossible – that Chelsea will sign Cristiano Ronaldo.”

TIF Thoughts on Ronaldo…

Chelsea were indeed credited with an interest in Ronaldo over the summer when he was told he could leave Manchester United, but that was under former manager Thomas Tuchel. In the end, they opted for a fellow veteran striker in the form of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

Who scored the opening goal in Liverpool's 4-3 win over Leeds United at Anfield in September?

Given that Aubameyang himself is struggling for regular minutes at Chelsea under Potter, it would be a huge surprise to see the Blues boss opt for an even older striker to help him achieve his goals.

Ronaldo has had a very poor season for club and country, with his most notable action thus far being an interview with Piers Morgan, so moving out of the spotlight and going to Saudi Arabia could even be the best move for him.
