Journalist Ben Jacobs has urged people to keep an eye on Newcastle United going for Joao Felix this winter.

It’s been reported by The Sunday Mirror (via the Express) that Joao Felix’s agent, Jorge Mendes, is set to hold talks with Newcastle and other Premier League clubs over the possibility of signing the young attacker, who is said to be available on the market in 2023.

Felix was a big-money signing back in 2019, costing Atletico Madrid £109m, but he has never been able to hit the heights many expected, with just 51 goal involvements in 129 appearances. However, that may not stop PIF from making a move for him.

Jacobs teased that Newcastle could sign Felix in 2023 when talking on The Football Terrace YouTube channel.

Do you want Newcastle to sign Felix?

No!

He said: “I’m just going to give you one name as well – without explanation, but just putting it there on the radar because I think we’re going to hear more with Joao Felix… Newcastle United.”

TIF Thoughts on Newcastle’s interest in Felix…

While there does appear to be genuine interest from Mendes getting Felix a move to Newcastle, the price tag is very likely to be a big stumbling block, as Atletico Madrid reportedly want to recoup around £86m.

This would simply not fit into Newcastle’s Financial Fair Play constraints, so this story may not be around for very long, but even if Felix goes somewhere else, this shows just how seriously the club are now being taken by other clubs and super-agents.

How well do you remember Newcastle's January transfer window? An easy one to start with: where did Newcastle sign Bruno Guimaraes from?

Newcastle have recently been linked with moves for the likes of Christian Pulisic, Leandro Trossard and now Felix, so it appears very clear that Eddie Howe will want the club to be in the market for a versatile and agile forward in January.
