Tottenham Hotspur are not in talks over the potential signing of Udinese centre-back Rodrigo Becao ahead of the January transfer window.
This is according to reliable transfer guru Fabrizio Romano, who has been speaking to Caught Offside about the Brazilian defender’s future.
It had been reported by an Italian outlet that both Spurs and north London rivals Arsenal were prepared to lodge bids for the defender amid their interest ahead of the winter window.
The 26-year-old has played nine Serie A games for Udinese this season, but has since picked up an injury which has seen him miss the last five league games (via Transfermarkt).
However, Romano has now shut down the transfer report, suggesting neither of the Premier League sides had begun talks with the Italian outfit over the Brazilian.
He said: “Despite what you might be hearing elsewhere, there are currently no talks between Arsenal or Tottenham and Udinese for Rodrigo Becao.”
TIF Thoughts on Romano’s comments…
Romano has already suggested Spurs will be on the hunt for defensive reinforcements in January, with Antonio Conte looking to strengthen his options.
Is centre-back Spurs' biggest weakness?
And the Lilywhites should have a good relationship with Udinese, having signed Destiny Udogie in the summer window before allowing Le Zebrette to keep him on loan for the 2022/23 campaign.
Spurs have had a lot of good fortune in bringing in players from Serie A recently, with Rodrigo Bentancur, Dejan Kulusevski and Cristian Romero all becoming integral members of Conte’s squad.
With Fabio Paratici and Conte’s experience in the Italian game, it will be interesting to see if this is another player Spurs potentially pursue in the coming weeks.
