Journalist Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Manchester United are not close to pulling off a deal for Joao Felix at this stage, despite rumours linking them with the Portuguese ace.
There were reports in Spanish media over recent weeks that the player’s agent, Jorge Mendes, is trying to work out an exit from Atletico Madrid for his client.
Consequently, the Red Devils were named as a likely destination for Felix. On top of that, the Express also claimed that the Portugal star was ‘one player in their sights’.
However, while speaking recently on his own YouTube channel, Romano said that despite past interest, there are no ‘negotiations ongoing’ for the 22-year-old.
He explained: “Manchester United never made an official bid for Joao Felix. They just approached Atletico Madrid, but it was a no. And so not even a negotiation.
“And so, the reality now on Joao Felix is that there are no current negotiations. I see many links about Barcelona because of the relationship with his agent, Jorge Mendes – fantastic relationship between Barca and Mendes. And also many links with English clubs, including Manchester United.
“But at the moment, as I told you, there are no negotiations ongoing, and Atletico Madrid want big money to consider proposals for Joao Felix.”
TIF Thoughts on Joao Felix and Manchester United…
With so little club football to be played before we break for the World Cup and the opening of the January transfer window, it will certainly be interesting to see how Man United approach the market.
Clearly, at this stage, nothing is close with Felix, but that could all change. The Atletico Madrid man may well want out this winter seeing as he has started just five La Liga games this season and a further three in the Champions League (via Transfermarkt).
This situation is not ideal for the attacker, and despite his limited game time, he still has six goal contributions in the league, reminding everyone of his quality and potential to be a major star.
With that in mind, he shouldn’t be short of suitors should he be put up for sale. For now, though, it seems as if there is a lot of work to do before a move to United seems possible.
