Everton are now looking to reward Alex Iwobi with a new and improved contract to extend his stay at Goodison Park.

This has been suggested by the transfer guru Fabrizio Romano who has been speaking on his latest Here We Go podcast about the Nigerian’s Everton future.

Iwobi has become an integral part of Frank Lampard’s XI with the 26-year-old having already played every minute of every Premier League game this season (via Transfermarkt).

However, his contract with the Merseyside club is set to expire in 2024 having joined the Toffees back in 2019 from Arsenal for a fee believed to be just north of £27m.

And it seems Lampard is keen to secure Iwobi’s long-term future down at Everton with Romano understanding discussions have taken place over an improved deal:

(12:00) “Alex Iwobi is negotiating a new contract with Everton. They are discussing on the salary, on the length of the contract. But conversations are ongoing.”

TIF Thoughts on Romano’s comments…

Iwobi has certainly become a key figure in Lampard’s side with 28 appearances already to his name under the 44-year-old manager.

Is Iwobi Everton's best midfielder now?

And the Nigerian has already started this season off on the front foot having scored once and provided three assists in the Premier League.

Under Lampard, Iwobi has been hailed as “a man transformed” with his transformation into a central midfielder and it seems Lampard’s trust in the 26-year-old has paid off.
