Image for Everton: Demarai Gray sends Ben Godfrey message as Finch Farm image emerges

Demarai Gray has sent Everton teammate Ben Godfrey a simple message on Instagram after the defender was recently pictured back in training.

It hasn’t been the best of times for Godfrey since his £25m move to Everton in 2020 having been shoved in as a full-back 24 times and has also spent a lot time in the treatment room.

As things stand, Godfrey has missed 17 games for Everton since joining the Toffees, but he could be nearing a return having now been pictured back in training at Finch Farm, which will please Frank Lampard.

It’s not just Godfrey and Lampard who will love these images of the defender, as his teammate Gray has sent him a message accompanied by an image of the defender on Instagram reading: “Love to see it, Benom.”

TIF Thoughts on Godfrey’s return…

While it will have been frustrating for Godfrey to be shoehorned into the team over the last few seasons as a full-back, he may now welcome that role given how well new centre-back pairing James Tarkowski and Conor Coady have performed this season.

The pair boast 7.01 and 6.61 WhoScored match ratings respectively and have helped Everton become the joint-best defence in the league, so Godfrey certainly has a fight on his hands to get back to full fitness and also dislodge one of Lampard’s reliable centre-backs.

What will be on Godfrey’s side, however, is the fact that he’s still young at 24, so he could use this season to build up his fitness and learn from both of his colleagues before making a serious push next pre-season to start under Lampard.
