Newcastle United fans have been issued a warning by TalkSport’s Simon Jordan amid their newly-found success in the Premier League.

The former club owner has been speaking on the TalkSport YouTube channel about the Toon’s impressive start to the new season but has warned they could fall victim to their own success.

Eddie Howe’s side now find themselves in the top four of the Premier League table following their impressive win against Tottenham Hotspur in north London.

Newcastle have now taken five points from their games against Spurs, Manchester City and Manchester United and were only seconds away from a draw at Anfield against Liverpool.

But Jordan has issued fans with a warning this stunning start to the campaign could come back to haunt the side in the future as a result of inflated expectations:

(5:00) “And Newcastle may yet prove me wrong and get inside the top six. If they do, it will be a phenomenal achievement. Because it will be setting the heather on fire, it’ll make them perhaps victims of their own success because there’ll be an increased expectation.

“And I don’t care how many Newcastle fans start screaming at the screen saying ‘we don’t have expectations’. Everybody has expectations. Every fan has expectations. And Newcastle fans are no different.

“If they get inside the side of the top six with Saudi ownership and the feeling despite the management trying to suppress expectation ‘oh we do have a ceiling, we do have a ceiling’. Wait and see.”

TIF Thoughts on Jordan’s comments…

We think there is certainly some truth in what Jordan is saying as despite the cautious approach ahead of the season, a top-six finish would naturally see expectations increase on Tyneside over the summer.

Are you expecting a top six finish?

Yes

Yes

No

No

However, Newcastle now have to be aiming for a positive remainder of the season having made such an impressive start which has been summed up by their away win against Spurs on Sunday.

Newcastle have shown they are certainly capable of competing with the Premier League big boys this season and they have done so with significant injuries.

Maybe, just maybe, Newcastle fans have every right to be aiming high now.
