BBC Pundit Clinton Morrison has slammed Tottenham Hotspur defender Ryan Sessegnon for his role played in a goal his team conceded.

This weekend in the Premier League, Spurs hosted Newcastle United at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium but Antonio Conte’s men got off to a pretty bad start.

Indeed, goals from Callum Wilson and Miguel Almiron put the Magpies 2-0 up before halftime and it seems as though Sessegnon’s role in the second effort has drawn attention for all the wrong reasons.

As quoted on the BBC match coverage, Morrison noted how Tottenham goalkeeper Hugo Lloris could have done better, as could have Clement Lenglet, but he laid the bulk of the blame at Sessegnon’s feet.

The pundit said: “The kick from Lloris is not good enough but Sessegnon is not good enough. Poor defending from Lenglet as well but it’s all about Almiron. He just tucks it under Lloris and it’s a great finish.”

TIF thoughts on Ryan Sessegnon and Tottenham Hotspur…

The defender lost possession 12 times and managed a pass success rate of just 62% (SofaScore).

While the goal certainly displayed some super attacking quality from Almiron who made Lloris pay for his initial poor kick, Sessegnon really did need to show more strength in the initial duel to halt the Newcastle winger’s momentum.

Journalist Henry Winter certainly noted that Almiron was ‘too strong’ for the defender and it’s hardly the return to the team he would have wanted having failed to start either two of Tottenham’s last Premier League matches – for a total of just eight minutes of playing time.

The efforts of the wingback hardly impressed in that instance, and left Players’ Tribune journalist Hunter Godson to say: “I’m worried it won’t ever happen for Sessegnon at Spurs.”
