Journalist Dan Kilpatrick has slammed Tottenham Hotspur defender Ryan Sessegnon for his display in the club’s most recent game.

Playing on Saturday evening, Spurs travelled away from home in the Premier League on the south coast where they met Brighton and Hove Albion.

In the end, a single first-half goal from striker Harry Kane was enough to hand Tottenham a win as they edged past the Seagulls with a narrow 1-0 victory.

Despite the win, in the player ratings for the Evening Standard, Kilpatrick slammed Sessegnon for his underwhelming 6/10 display in which he was also dubbed ‘a little erratic’.

The journalist wrote: “Got up and down the left flank really well but final ball and decision-making is still a little erratic. Wasted some good positions.”

TIF Thoughts on Ryan Sessegnon and Tottenham…

According to stats recorded by SofaScore, it’s not hard to see why Kilpatrick noted Sessegnon’s erratic efforts on the ball. Indeed, he lost possession 11 times, failed with two attempted long balls and completed just one out of three crosses.

His 6.5/10 match rating was the lowest out of those to start the game for Spurs.

On top of that, he also committed two fouls, was caught offside once, was dribbled past on one occasion and even made an error directly leading to a Brighton shot. Evidently, it wasn’t the most comfortable day at the office for the Englishman – though bizarrely enough, he was handed the Player of the Match award by Sky Sports.

Luckily for the youngster, his wastefulness wasn’t enough to cost his side any points as Spurs just about clung on to claim the win. As a result, Tottenham are third in the league behind rivals Arsenal and Manchester City.
