Tottenham Hotspur: James Maddison would be an ideal signing

Image for Tottenham Hotspur: James Maddison would be an ideal signing

Tottenham Hotspur would have the “perfect player” to play in an attacking midfield role if they signed the in-form James Maddison.

That is the opinion of journalist Pete O’Rourke, who was speaking to This is Futbol about the latest news from the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Spurs had been credited with an interest in Maddison in the summer transfer window but didn’t make a move for the Leicester City star, with Newcastle United having two bids – the latter being over £40m rejected for the 25-year-old.

It is believed that the Foxes value the Coventry-born midfielder at £60m, meaning that any type of deal is going to take a significant chunk out of a buying club’s transfer budget.

But O’Rourke believes that Maddison could be that “creative link in midfield”, suggesting he would be an ideal signing for Tottenham.

He said: “I know that Spurs are missing that creative link in midfield, and I’m sure James Maddison, if he was to go to Tottenham, would be the perfect player to play in that role as an attacking midfielder.”

TIF Thoughts on O’Rourke’s comments…

We completely agree with O’Rourke and believe that Maddison would be a fantastic addition at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, whether they move for him in the winter or in the summer transfer window.

Despite Leicester currently being in the Premier League relegation zone, the one-time England international has been a shining light for the east Midlands side so far this campaign, scoring five goals and providing two assists in eight Premier League appearances, including a brace in a “flawless” performance in his side’s recent 4-0 victory over Nottingham Forest.

Therefore, we think that as a goal-getter from midfield, there is not much better out there than Maddison right now, and £60m could prove to be as cheap as it gets for the former Norwich City star as his stock could rise by January if he keeps up this impressive form.
