Leeds United manager Jesse Marsch has claimed the board are still showing their full support in him after recent meetings, but acknowledges the difficult position the club are in.

And this has angered presenter Conor McGilligan, who has questioned the delay in potentially waiting until the World Cup break before sacking the American.

It has been a tricky start to the 2022/23 campaign for Leeds, who now find themselves on a dreadful run of results and inside the bottom three of the Premier League table.

Speaking on Thursday in his press conference, Marsch said: “They’ve been very supportive. I’m not dumb. I understand that if we don’t win games, I put them in a difficult position to support me.”

The Whites now have three Premier League games before the World Cup break, including two games away from home against Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur.

This has McGilligan questioning what there is to gain from potentially giving Marsch – who is on an eight-game run without a victory – another handful of games.

He tweeted: “Potentially the gap could have extended between us and other teams above us by then – the delay is baffling.”

TIF Thoughts on McGilligan’s comments…

We do completely understand where McGilligan is coming from given the desperate run of form Leeds are currently on, with their last league win coming back in August.

Should Marsch be given till the World Cup break?

However, there is possibly a view from the Leeds board of what good would a change now do with tough away games to Liverpool and Spurs coming up.

With such a big break in the middle of the season for the World Cup, it offers clubs – Leeds in particular – plenty of time to review their situation and a good opportunity to make major changes to managerial positions.
