Journalist Joshua Barrie, sometimes seen on Sky Sports, has called for Giovanni van Bronckhorst to address Rangers’ troubles on the right wing.

Scott Wright, Fashion Sakala, Rabbi Matondo, and even Malik Tillman in a slightly narrower right attacking-midfield role, have been used by the Gers’ boss down that side at Ibrox this season.

In four straight games prior to the defeat in Napoli on Wednesday, a different player had started each time, with Scott Wright coming back into the side in midweek.

The quartet have just four goals between them, which is a concern – with Tillman accounting for three of them and Matondo and Wright yet to get off the mark.

Barrie has expressed his frustration amid the continuous issues in that area.

Taking to Twitter during their clash in Naples, he posted: “Sakala on for Wright at half-time.

“Rangers have switched to a back five which maybe gives some context as to why. Wright was tasked with tracking Rui at points but failed to do that at the second goal. Still, inconsistent selection on the right continues to be a glaring problem.”

TIF Thoughts on Barrie’s comments…

Should Fashion Sakala start for Rangers on the wing?

Yes

No

No

With Tillman not ‘looking comfortable’ out wide, Matondo struggling to settle in and Wright’s lack of attacking output with just eight goals in 64 appearances for the club, we would suggest Van Bronckhorst sticks with Sakala for the time being.

Although naturally a centre-forward, the Zambian has consistently produced on either flank and has directly contributed to six goals in seven games from the right wing in the Scottish Premiership.

And speaking on the Go Radio Football Show earlier this month, Barry Ferguson called for the 25-year-old to be given a chance after grabbing a goal and an assist as the Gers defeated St Mirren 4-0, and we believe he should be given a run of games in the side.
