Sky Sports pundit Stephen Warnock has claimed that the disallowed goal scored by Marcus Rashford against Everton should have stood.

The Toffees took on Manchester United in the Premier League this weekend but could not get a result as they fell to a 2-1 defeat in front of their own fans.

Alex Iwobi had put Everton ahead with a fine effort from outside the box but goals from Antony and then Cristiano Ronaldo were enough to turn the game around.

Rashford looked to have sealed the win late on only for VAR to intervene and rule out his strike after he appeared to handle the ball before dribbling around Jordan Pickford.

While discussing the incident on Sky Sports’ Ref Watch, Warnock said that the goal was right to be allowed due to the ‘letter of the law’ but it was wrong to disallow the goal for such marginal handball.

He said: “It’s a handball. It’s wrong. It should be a goal.

“But by the letter of the law [it’s disallowed], and this is the problem that we’re having. That should be a goal.”
