According to journalist Dean Jones, Newcastle United could bring in Donny van de Beek in January as Eddie Howe looks to add to his midfield options at St James’ Park.

A report from 90min has claimed that van de Beek is free to leave Manchester United when the market reopens having been deemed surplus to requirements.

The source suggests that a raft of Premier League clubs are interested as well as Eredivisie duo PSV and his former club Ajax.

Another article has listed Inter Milan among the potential suitors.

The Dutchman made the switch to Old Trafford back in 2020 for £40m but was sent out on loan to Everton for the second half of last season.

Even a reunion with former boss Erik ten Hag has failed to revive his United career with him playing just 19 minutes of Premier League football this term.

Now Jones has speculated that he could find his way to Tyneside.

He told GIVEMESPORT:

“Newcastle is one option. They want a central midfielder, still, and I think he might fit the bill.”

Interestingly, the Magpies were interested in the Dutchman long before PIF even took over at St James’ Park.

Considering the 19-cap Netherlands ace was in scintillating form prior to his move to the Red Devils, there is a player there that the Magpies could perhaps help in rediscovering that quality.

He starred in Ajax’s run to the Champions League semi-finals in 2018/19 playing a hand in five goals and the following season scored ten goals and provided 11 assists in all competitions.

He has been limited to just 53 appearances so far in Manchester with an average of 35 minutes per outing but it remains to be seen whether Newcastle will offer him an avenue out of the theatre of dreams.
