The signing of Shakhtar Donetsk and Ukraine winger Mykhaylo Mudryk would be a “massive signing” for Everton in January.

That is according to journalist Pete O’Rourke, who was speaking to GIVEMESPORT about the latest transfer news at Goodison Park.

Shakhtar sporting director Darijo Srna previously told CBS Sports that the Ukrainian club had rejected a fee of around £26.4m for the services of Mudryk in the summer.

However, when the winger spoke to The Times last month he was asked about the prospect of moving to the Premier League, in which the 21-year-old responded with: “Yes, yes, it is possible. The Premier League is the best league in the world and everyone wants to play in this league.”

And O’Rourke believes that the signing of Mudryk would send a statement out to the rest of Europe, with there being plenty of competition for the Shakhtar star’s signature.

“There’s massive competition for him,” O’Rourke told GIVEMESPORT.

“So, if Everton were able to blow their rivals out of the water with a big-money bid, I think that’ll be a massive signing for them and a real signal of intent that the club are going to back Frank Lampard in the transfer market.”

TIF Thoughts on O’Rourke’s comments

We agree with O’Rourke and believe that Mudryk, who has been dubbed as a “Grealish regen” by journalist Sam Tighe would demonstrate that Everton still have huge pull, despite a lot of Europe’s top clubs being interested in the wide-man.

However, we believe that the Toffees will have to offer around double of what they had rejected in the summer, with the i reporting that Newcastle are currently weighing up a £50m move for the eight-time Ukraine international.

The Krasnograd-born winger is an assist machine, having laid on six goals for his teammates so far this season, whilst also providing two goals of his own according to Transfermarkt.

Therefore, we think that Mudryk would be an exceptional addition for Frank Lampard’s side in January, but we think that the club may struggle to muster the funds for his purchase.
