Football finance expert Kieran Maguire believes that Farhad Moshiri may not be looking for an Everton takeover, but instead, some external investment.

Reports emerged earlier in 2022 that Peter Kenyon was leading a consortium to try and buy Everton off Moshiri, but in the end, nothing came of those talks and the Iranian-British owner is still the custodian of the Toffees.

However, fresh reports have started to circulate over the last week about new people looking at Everton and taking it off Moshiri’s hands, although nothing appears to be imminent at the moment.

Maguire has claimed on The Price of Football podcast that Moshiri is yet to rule out wanting external investment amidst takeover talk.

(24:10) “The FT [Financial Times] would not publish an article unless they researched it. To say that the Kaminski deal, never say never, £400 million deal would appear to be the price involved, Everton have sort of pushed back saying, well, there’s been no conversations that we’re aware of being very coy.

Do you want Moshiri to sell Everton?

Yes!

Yes!

No!

No!

“That doesn’t mean that we’re not looking for some form of investment but if it does take place, then we could have another American owner.”

TIF Thoughts on Everton takeover talk…

It would be an interesting time for Moshiri to sell Everton given they are edging closer to moving into their new stadium, something he’s funded himself, and they appear to finally be back on the up under Frank Lampard after a few years slogging it out.

Which of these Serie A stars did the Toffees miss out on?

Earlier in the year when reports emerged about Moshiri potentially willing to sell, it was understandable given the Toffees had been involved in a very tight and tense relegation battle last season and were almost dumped out of the Premier League.

Now though, given he handed Lampard a decent amount of money to splash out on transfers over the summer and to now potentially sell up and ride off into the sunset, would be a bizarre move, although landing £400 million for a club that were almost relegated last season, would likely be very tempting for Moshiri.
