Everton: Paul Brown tips Neal Maupay to become a ‘regular scorer’ after summer transfer

Journalist Paul Brown has claimed that new Everton striker Neal Maupay will be a ‘regular scorer’ for the club soon enough.

In the latter stages of the summer transfer market, the Toffees signed the forward for £15m, landing the 26-year-old on a three-year deal.

So far, the Frenchman has played just once for Everton but failed to score in their Merseyside derby draw with Liverpool, missing one big chance during the game.

Despite that, Brown seemed positive about the striker while speaking about him in a recent interview with GiveMeSport, making a bold prediction.

Indeed, he said: “I think he’ll get better. I think it’s only a matter of time before he scores and I think he will be a regular scorer in the team.”

TIF Thoughts on Neal Maupay and Everton…

With 27 goals in 109 appearances for Brighton & Hove Albion, it’s probably fair to say Maupay wasn’t quite a regular scorer for the Seagulls, although his record was better at Brentford, where he notched 41 strikes in 95 games.

With that in mind, it’s certainly no guarantee that Maupay will be a consistent goal threat while playing for the Toffees, but he should be able to chip in every now and then.

However, as he has been signed to help fill the void left by Richarlison after he joined Tottenham Hotspur this summer, there will be pressure on him to perform, especially as the Brazilian scored 10 Premier League goals last term.

Indeed, following his debut blank in the Merseyside derby, former Liverpool striker Michael Owen accused the Frenchman of lacking ‘courage‘ after missing a golden opportunity.

Maupay will certainly hope to get off the mark soon, and if Brown’s prediction comes true, he could be a great signing for Everton. For now, though, question marks will linger on – at least in the short term.
