Tottenham Hotspur: Jones backs Dejan Kulusevski to regain place and thrive

|

Tottenham Hotspur and Sweden wide man Dejan Kulusevski has been backed to thrive in Antonio Conte’s team, despite having been dropped recently.

That is according to Dean Jones, who was speaking to GIVEMESPORT about the latest news from the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Kulusevski joined Spurs last January on an initial 18-month loan, with the club having the option to buy the 22-year-old for £37.5m next summer.

However, the 25-time Sweden international hasn’t started in Spurs’ last three fixtures, having been dropped for £60m summer signing Richarlison, though he has come on as a substitute in each game against Fulham, Marseille, and most recently Sporting Lisbon.

However a poor all-round performance in the side’s 2-0 defeat in Portugal this week may see the Juventus loanee regain his place in the side’s clash with Leicester City this weekend.

However, Jones has backed the Swede to thrive in Conte’s system, despite the fact he will be disappointed to have been dropped.

“Kulusevski is relatively new to this team,” Jones told GIVEMESPORT.

“Of course, he will be disappointed when he doesn’t start.

“But I think he’s going to have to accept the competition and the rotation that’s now going to take place within those top four spots in the team.

“He’s got to adapt and he’s got to thrive.

“I think he will, to be honest.”

TIF Thoughts on Jones’ comments

We believe that Kulusevski’s performances since his arrival at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium suggest that he will find a way to get back into the team sooner rather than later.

The versatile attack minded player, who has been described as “explosive” by ex-Sweden international Marcus Allback, has already scored a goal and provided two assists in six Premier League appearances so far this season according to Transfermarkt, whilst Sweden star ranks in the top 2% of attacking midfielders/wingers across Europe’s top five leagues and European competition for assists per 90 minutes (0.48), according to FBref.

Therefore, we agree with Jones and back Kulusevski to make a return to the starting line-up, and lay down a marker for the other forwards in the side to take note of.
