Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Yves Bissouma has been tipped as a potential starter for Antonio Conte for this weekend’s Premier League game.

This has been suggested by reliable Spurs correspondent Alasdair Gold, who has been speaking on his YouTube channel following their draw on Sunday.

Spurs stole a point late on in the game, however, it was a pretty poor showing from Conte’s side on the whole, which has Gold thinking some changes could be made ahead of Saturday’s clash.

Against Chelsea, Conte stuck with the same midfield two of Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Rodrigo Bentancur, who have now both played the majority of the opening two games.

However, it was apparent Gold was not too impressed with Bentancur’s display on Sunday and thinks Bissouma could potentially replace him this weekend, after awarding him with just a 5/10 rating:

Gold said: “It was a bright little cameo. He needs game time, he really does. Obviously had [the virus], which will have affected him a little bit, a couple of weeks back. But for him, I just wonder. I wonder whether Conte will be tempted to play him with Hojbjerg against Wolves next weekend.”

TIF Thoughts on Gold’s comments…

The Spurs midfield did feel like a real weak point on Sunday, with Chelsea dominating the game and forcing Bentancur into giving away three fouls (via SofaScore). He also received a rating of just 5/10 from Alasdair Gold himself.

Who would you start vs Wolves?

Bentancur had only successfully completed 4/10 ground duels against Thomas Tuchel’s side and Gold feels this may open the door for Bissouma.

This is where Conte’s depth of options from the bench will potentially prove its worth. Bentancur clearly did not have a great game and the Italian has a quality midfielder in Bissouma who could provide a straight swap.

The Mali midfielder completed 73 tackles in his 26 Premier League appearances last season (via FBref) and could therefore prove a real asset against the likes of Ruben Neves.
