Journalist Ben Jacobs believes Tottenham Hotspur have a decent chance of negotiating a contract extension for Harry Kane, with the club thought to be ‘very, very confident’ of getting a deal wrapped up with the England striker.

It looked as if Kane’s goal drought to start the season was set to continue as time crept towards the 96th minute on Sunday evening as the striker had only managed two shots all game, only for him to pop up at the near post and head home a last-gasp equaliser for Tottenham at Stamford Bridge.

It has been quite the turnaround for Kane and Spurs, as this time 12 months ago, it seemed likely he would be leaving and joining current Premier League champions Manchester City, with a £100m bid having been knocked back by the club, but now Jacobs claims that he could be willing to sign a new deal.

Jacobs believes that people within Spurs are confident of securing Kane’s long-term future.

Speaking on The Spurs Watch’s Twitter Space, he said: “You look at how he reacted to scoring [v Chelsea], you look at how he’s applied himself in pre-season comparative to when he was being linked with Manchester City, and all signs point towards the fact that Tottenham are going to be able to offer Kane a new and improved deal and get that done.

Will Kane sign a new contract?

No!

“And that’s my understanding from talking to people at the club, that they’re very, very confident of tying him down; there’s no suggestion that he is going to look to exit or force his way out imminently.”

TIF Thoughts on Kane’s future…

As things stand, it would appear that the only destination Kane could perhaps land is Bayern Munich, given they have lost Robert Lewandowski to Barcelona, but they have labelled him a ‘dream’ signing, which may suggest that there is little chance of it happening.

How well do you know where these Spurs signings came from? Take our quiz to find out! Firstly, where did Dimitar Berbatov arrive from?

The England captain has a contract which runs until the summer of 2024, which gives Spurs plenty of time to thrash out a new and improved deal for their star striker, which could also be key to keeping Antonio Conte happy as he looks to build something special at the club.
