Tottenham Hotspur are expected to appeal Antonio Conte’s red card received on the weekend in their draw at Stamford Bridge.

This has been suggested by Alasdair Gold who has been discussing the dramatic touchline incidents between Conte and Thomas Tuchel on his latest YouTube video.

The two managers were both shown a red card following the full-time whistle as they went head-to-head after the Chelsea boss shared his frustrations over the pair’s handshake.

And since the full-time whistle, the FA has released a statement claiming both managers are set to be charged and have until Thursday to submit their appeals:

“Thomas Tuchel and Antonio Conte have both been charged with a breach of FA Rule E3, following the Premier League fixture between Chelsea FC and Tottenham Hotspur FC on Sunday 14 August 2022,” read the statement.

But Gold believes the Spurs boss will look to appeal the charge as he feels there was little that the Italian had actually done following the whistle.

“I really do think Conte’s been incredibly unfortunate and I have no doubt, I’m sure Spurs will appeal because it makes no sense not to.

“There’s nothing physical about it. There’s not even pushing or shoving or anything like that, from what I could see. It was just a weird moment, which I think, afterwards, certainly I know Conte said it, but I’d imagine Tuchel will admit it as well, he was kind of the aggressor, he was the instigator. He grabbed and held Conte’s hand, and that in turn whipped him around.”

TIF Thoughts on Gold’s comments…

We have to agree with Gold in thinking Conte did very little wrong to warrant the red card shown by Anthony Taylor, with Tuchel the instigator after the full-time whistle.

Do you think Spurs would win the appeal?

Yes

Yes

No

No

In fact, we do not think the incidents after the game saw too much wrong occur with the crowd of players and staff flocking to the managers potentially making it look worse than it was.

But with a game against Wolverhampton Wanderers coming up at the weekend, losing Conte from the touchline will be far from ideal with Bruno Lage’s men looking for their first victory of the season.
