Tottenham Hotspur could now bring in another centre-back this summer following the departure of Joe Rodon in recent days.

This is according to insider Ryan Taylor, who has been speaking about the north London club’s transfer plans on his latest YouTube video.

On Monday, it was confirmed the Welsh defender had departed the Lilywhites to join Rennes on a season-long loan with the option to make the move permanent.

And question marks remain over the future of Japhet Tanganga, who is believed to be a serious target of Serie A champions Milan.

Spurs have already brought in Clement Lenglet this summer and a host of wing-backs, but Taylor believes there could be more to come from Antonio Conte amid talk of defensive exits in north London.

He said: “I do think Spurs will still be looking potentially to add a defender. Joe Rodon is obviously heading out on loan to Stade Rennais with an option to buy.

“Japhet Tanganga could also go to AC Milan as well, so centre-back is one that could still potentially materialise.”

TIF Thoughts on Taylor’s comments…

We think this would be a good move from Fabio Paratici if he was to bring in another centre-back this summer, perhaps as a backup for Eric Dier.

Do Spurs need another CB this summer?

Yes

Yes

No

No

We have already seen how quickly injury issues can put a dent in Conte’s plans, with both Oliver Skipp and Yves Bissouma picking up issues recently ahead of the game against Southampton.

Currently, Dier is the only centre-back out of the starting three without a direct backup, which could potentially cause an issue further down the line if he was to suffer a knock that saw him sidelined.

And if Tanganga is to leave, Spurs would then be losing a versatile member of their defence who, although not a regular, has been able to provide cover across the backline at the club (via Transfermarkt).
