Tottenham Hotspur defender Cristian Romero is now set to return from his injury earlier than originally thought.
This is according to Alasdair Gold, who has been speaking on his YouTube channel about the Argentinian centre-back, who missed Saturday’s game in north London.
It was reported last week that the 23-year-old had picked up an adductor injury in the game against Chelsea which would see him out for around a month.
However, Gold now believes the centre-back is playing down this prognosis and even wanted to play at the weekend in the victory against Wolves.
With Romero keen to get back out on the pitch, Gold has shared insight on when the Argentinian may return to action, with those inside Spurs suggesting a potential month on the sidelines.
“He picked up an adductor muscle injury late on in the game against Chelsea. Despite the reports in Argentina, from what I’m told by lots of people inside Tottenham, it wasn’t caused by the [Marc] Cucurella challenge on him. That has left a very painful looking mark, apparently, but that’s not what’s caused this adductor muscle injury in his groin.
“From what I can understand and from what Conte has confirmed in his press conference, Romero went: ‘Okay, so I’m going to play, yeah? I’ll play against Wolves’.”
TIF Thoughts on Gold’s comments…
We have been massively impressed by Romero since he arrived in north London last summer, as he has established himself as one of the first names on the teamsheet when fit.
Are you worried for Spurs without Romero in defence?
Yes
No
However, his fitness has been one of the few issues he has brought with him, having now endured three injuries since joining, which has seen him miss 20 games.
And although we have been impressed with the defender, it is apparent Conte has a lot of trust in Davinson Sanchez, who stepped in for the Argentinian last season in the final three games.
With the Colombian at the back on Saturday, Hugo Lloris secured his first clean sheet of the campaign, and as Sky Sports reporter Jamie Weir highlighted, Spurs have not conceded a goal in over seven hours with Sanchez playing.
With this in mind, surely there is no need to rush Romero back and risk further injury.
