Tottenham Hotspur are now likely to receive an injury boost with the return to training of Oliver Skipp by the end of the week.

This has been suggested by Alasdair Gold, who has been speaking on the latest Gold & Guest Talk Tottenham podcast ahead of Spurs’ next Premier League clash.

Antonio Conte’s men have made a bright start to the 2022/23 campaign with four points from a possible six against Southampton and Chelsea.

However, they have had to do so without 22-year-old midfielder Skipp, who was injured in training after a coming-together resulted in a nasty cut and hairline fracture to his ankle.

This happened just days before Spurs’ curtain-raiser at home to the Saints, and just two weeks on, Gold expects Skipp to return to training very soon.

He said: “Skippy, hopefully, I think is, by the end of this week going to be back doing some outdoor stuff, so that’s a good sign. Hopefully, that means he should be back [against Wolves].

“Conte said a couple of weeks last press conference – that was pre-Chelsea, so we’re almost a week on from that. So hopefully, we’re getting towards something there.”

TIF Thoughts on Gold’s comments…

It was definitely a shame for Skipp to pick up the issue so close to the new campaign given he had missed almost the entire second half of the 2021/22 campaign through a separate injury.

Do you think Skipp can become a regular starter this season?

Yes

Yes

No

No

And that probably couldn’t have come at a worse time given Rodrigo Bentancur and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg’s partnership has been established in his absence, while Spurs have since added competition through the signing of Yves Bissouma.

However, Conte has spoken very highly of Skipp in the past, and given this was a freak training ground injury, we would not expect it to have set him too far back in the Italian’s plans.
