Tottenham Hotspur duo Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Cristian Romero were spotted in an intense pre-game discussion before their game on Sunday.

This has been claimed by Spurs correspondent Alasdair Gold, who spotted the incident from the press box at Stamford Bridge and relayed it on his latest YouTube video.

It was an intense afternoon in west London which saw tempers flare between the players on the pitch and between the managers on the touchline.

And Romero was one of the players involved in the controversy, with many believing he should’ve been shown a red card for violent conduct.

But before the game, Gold spotted the Danish midfielder locked in a strong discussion with the Argentinian centre-back as the players neared the end of their warm-ups.

He said: “It was interesting because I was watching in the pre-match warm-up, they did their final sprint they always do before they come into the tunnel, and as they were lining up for that, Hojbjerg was having a really intense discussion with Romero – who didn’t look as intense whatsoever.

“Hojbjerg’s got that kind of almost weird intensity to the way he speaks. And yeah, I just found that quite interesting, he was really talking to him quite strongly.”

TIF Thoughts on Gold’s comments…

There will likely have been concerns over Romero’s aggression getting the better of him in what has been a typically intense fixture when the two sides meet at Stamford Bridge.

Does Romero's aggression worry you?

Yes

Yes

No

No

And this turned out to be the case after he dragged Marc Cucurella to the ground by his hair, which was somehow not deemed a red card offence by Mike Dean on VAR duty.

However, up until then, Romero had played a fairly measured game by his standards and ended the game having gone the full 90 minutes without conceding a single foul.

So perhaps Hojbjerg was reaffirming the necessity for Romero to not allow his aggression to get the better of him in what was a huge game on Spurs’ calendar.

It appears their ‘intense discussion’ worked – but only just!
