Dan Kilpatrick has claimed on The Spurs Web’s Twitter Space that he’s confident Tottenham Hotspur have indeed enquired about Trevoh Chalobah.

It had been reported by The Evening Standard’s Nizaar Kinsella that Spurs did indeed lodge an enquiry over the availability of Chalobah, who is yet to feature in the Premier League this season either from the start or off the bench.

Therefore, while Tottenham looking to sign a Chelsea outcast may look bizarre on paper, he did manage to rack up a 7.51 WhoScored rating in a team that indeed did finish higher than Tottenham last season, so he would certainly be an upgrade on someone such as Japhet Tanganga or Joe Rodon, both who appear to be surplus to requirements under Antonio Conte.

Kilpatrick was asked about the truth behind claims they had required over the availability of Chalobah, and he had this to say:

Would you like Spurs to sign Chalobah?

Yes!

Yes!

No!

No!

(14:40) “I think it was my colleague Nizaar Kinsella who broke that story [Chalobah] so I’m very confident he was right about that and that he was one of the names Spurs enquired about, beyond that, you’re right, I haven’t heard a huge amount.”

TIF Thoughts on Spurs’ centre-back search amidst Chalobah interest…

If Spurs did want to bring in Chalobah it would surely be as squad depth and not to necessarily start given they already have Eric Dier, Christian Romero, Ben Davies, Davinson Sanchez and Clement Lenglet already comfortable in a back three.

How well do you know where these Spurs signings came from? Take our quiz to find out! Firstly, where did Dimitar Berbatov arrive from?

From Chalobah’s point of view, it wouldn’t make a lot of sense to move from Chelsea where he’s already warming the bench, to Tottenham, risk annoying Chelsea fans, and just warm the bench under Conte.

As things stand, Tottenham likely need to ship out a few players before Conte can look to bolster his squad further with a quartet of players having been told they are now free to find new clubs, although only Tanguy Ndombele has done so thus far, so this may restrict Spurs’ ability to recruit defensive reinforcements if they can’t ship out fringe players.

We need a world class centre back, not one that our rivals don’t even want to keep.
