Journalist Joe Donnohue has expressed his excitement over footage of Sonny Perkins impressing with Leeds United U21s.

Earlier this week, the academy outfit took on Aston Villa in Premier League 2 and managed to claim a 2-1 victory away from home with Perkins stealing the show.

Indeed, the youngster who joined in the summer managed to score a brace for Leeds and it seems as though Donnohue has been blown away by his impact on the team already.

Reacting to footage shared online of the 18-year-old firing in an equaliser with a fine left-footed strike, the journalist said the new transfer was proving to be a  ‘very shrewd addition’.

He wrote: “Sonny Perkins looking like a very shrewd addition for #LUFC U21s if this finish is anything to go by. Three in three. Talk about hitting the ground running.”

TIF thoughts on Sonny Perkins and Leeds…

Perkins joined from West Ham United in the summer, who showed just how sad they were to lose him in a strongly worded statement shared on the club’s official website.

And considering the start the teen has made to life in Yorkshire, it’s easy to see why he is so highly rated. Indeed, he now has four goals in his first three outings with the Leeds U21s.

While he is yet to play any senior minutes for the first team, he did play three times for West Ham, and if he keeps up this fine form with the youth set-up, a debut under Jesse Marsch surely can’t be too far away.
