Everton midfielder Dele Alli may have been more suited to a move to Rangers or a Celtic, rather than his likely move to Besiktas this summer.

That is according to Dean Jones, who was speaking to This is Futbol about the latest transfer business from Goodison Park, going into the final two weeks of the transfer window.

After signing for Everton in January for what now looks to be a free transfer, Alli has found regular game time hard to come by and now looks set for a move to Besiktas.

According to MailOnline, the Turkish club had hoped to get the deal finalised in time for the midfielder to be in the stands for the club’s fixture against Fatih Karagumruk this weekend.

The move has been a failed experiment for Frank Lampard’s side, but being as they haven’t had to pay a transfer fee for the 26-year-old, the club will be happy to get the 37-capped England player off the wage bill.

But Jones believes that it would’ve made more sense for the former Tottenham Hotspur man to move to the Scottish Premiership to one of Celtic or Rangers:

“I hope he can salvage things if he does end up at Besiktas.

“I’ll be honest, a move to a Rangers or a Celtic I think would have suited him much better.

“But if he ends up in Turkey, then he’s got a big challenge ahead of him.”

TIF Thoughts on Jones’ comments

We agree with Jones and believe that it would’ve made more sense for Alli to move north of the border rather than a move to Turkey, due to the fact that he’d be more accessible to Premier League scouts, if he wanted to make a move back to English football.

The former MK Dons man has an obvious quality as shown by the fact that he has scored 51 goals and provided 37 assists in 194 Premier League appearances, according to Transfermarkt.

However, Alli has made just 13 appearances for Everton, playing 367 minutes and contributing no goals or assists according to the same stats provider, suggesting that the Toffees will be able to comfortably move on from the midfielder.

Therefore, we believe that whilst a move to Scotland may have made more sense, this is a move that works for all parties, as Alli looks to get his career back on track.
