Journalist Dean Jones has said that Rangers is the ‘perfect platform’ for Rabbi Matondo to prove what he can do next season.

It was recently announced that Matondo had signed for the Scottish Premiership side on a four-year deal, subject to international clearance. The signing of the 21-year-old from Schalke is Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s fourth of the summer transfer window.

Matondo was impressive last season whilst on loan with Cercle Brugge, where he made 27 appearances in all competitions for the Belgian side, netting 10 times and chipping in with two assists.

Whilst speaking with GiveMeSport just prior to Matondo’s arrival being confirmed, Jones claimed that Rangers was the ideal place for Matondo to showcase his talents, and it is important that the Scottish side sign players with ambition and drive.

He said: “I think Matondo is a really interesting one.

“He’s a player that raises the quality of the side and also has plenty to prove.

“I think that signing players with ambition and drive is key.

“I was speaking to someone yesterday and it’s thought that Rangers is seen as the perfect platform for him right now.”

TIF Thoughts on Jones’ comments…

With Matondo spending time on loan with Cercle Brugge last season, Schalke evidently still didn’t see him finding a way back into their side, so the player clearly thought that he would get his desired game time at Rangers, where he could show the world what he can do.

Rangers fell just short in the Europa League and in the Scottish Premiership last term, so they will be hoping that their new signings, such as Matondo can have a positive impact to help them push on and have a more successful season next term, especially if he can replicate the goals that he scored last year whilst on loan in Belgium.
