Pete O’Rourke believes that Ellis Simms would ‘add something’ to the current Rangers side.

The 21-year-old spent part of last season on-loan at Hearts, where he made 21 appearances, and scored an impressive seven goals, three of which came in the Scottish Premiership. With that loan move, he ticks the box for SPFL experience, perhaps justifying the reported interest of Rangers.

O’Rourke told GiveMeSport: “I think for Rangers, if they can get players who can go and hit the ground running, that might give them an advantage in the title race because it’s going to be a keenly fought title race again between Celtic and Rangers.

“So, I think Ellis Simms definitely proved last year that he can handle Scottish football and could be somebody that will definitely add something to that Rangers attack.”

Rangers could certainly do with the extra firepower next season after missing out on the league title against Celtic in the last campaign. Alfredo Morelos managed 12 goals in 26 Scottish Premiership appearances last season, as Rangers missed out on the title. With another goalscorer in the side, the burden placed on the forward would be significantly lifted.

TIF Thoughts on Pete O’Rourke’s Comments…

We’d have to agree with O’Rourke’s statement that Simms, who was dubbed to be a ‘top player’, can handle Scottish football. At such a young age of 21, he more than held his own at Hearts last season, as proven by the earlier stats. At a club with the stature of Rangers, too, he’d only improve even more, potentially reaching a whole new level.

It hasn’t been the busiest of summers at Rangers so far. The Gers’ most high profile signing has been Derby County’s Tom Lawrence so far, with just over a month left of the transfer window to make further additions.

The Scottish side face competition for his signature, however, with Middlesbrough also interested in Simms, according to The Express. If reports are to be believed, Simms has a key choice to make this summer.
