Insider ExWHUemployee has revealed that West Ham United have a genuine interest in signing striker Gianluca Scamacca.

The Hammers seem very much in the market for a new attacking option up top this summer, with the club said to be considering alternative options such as Ben Brereton Diaz if a move for main target Armando Broja should fail.

It seems as though David Moyes and co have got another name lined up, too, with the Sassuolo forward the latest player to be linked with the Premier League club.

Indeed, Ex recently shared an update on The West Ham Way Patreon page, explaining that claims of talks over signing the striker were ‘100% true’, but a bid has not yet come in for him amid widespread interest in the 23-year-old.

He wrote: “The club are also looking at the Italian forward Gianluca Scamacca as a potential alternative option to the signing of Broja. The player was meant to be joining other teams, but so far, a bid has not come in for the player, meaning he has emerged as a target. The player was keen to remain in Italy but could be open to a move if an Italian club does not sign him.

“PSG were said to be leading the chase for the player, and of course, it will be impossible to compete with their finances. Broja remains the number-one choice, but should this move fail, we have other options, the others which we named on the podcast this week, and an enquiry has been made about Scamacca’s cost as we explore options.”

He then added: “We are told talks regarding Scamacca are hundred percent true. At the moment, there has been no bid as the club look to establish how much the club would accept and whether the player will join (and for what wages).”

TIF Thoughts on Gianluca Scamacca and West Ham…

It does seem as though a few clubs have had an interest in signing Scamacca, who scored 16 league goals last season, with Arsenal and Paris Saint-Germain both linked earlier on in the summer – but no move has yet materialised.

And so, this could open up the door for West Ham to make their move. As Ex says, the interest is genuine, but at this early stage, the east London outfit are still trying to work out key details such as the transfer fee, wages and whether or not the player would be open to a switch.

But with The Athletic reporting ‘no significant movement’ regarding any teams trying to sign Broja – and that the Chelsea man will now fly to the United States for their pre-season tour – the Hammers may have to start pushing a little harder for their alternative targets such as Scamacca, whose admirers include Italy manager Roberto Mancini, with the ex-Manchester City boss claiming the striker ‘has everything to become a very, very good centre-forward’.
