Journalist Alex Dicken was blown away after Jonny Castro Otto looked ‘superb’ for Wolves in their latest pre-season outing.
Earlier this week, Bruno Lage’s men stepped up their preparations for the upcoming Premier League season with a friendly match against Turkish outfit Besiktas.
The game took place in Alicante as first-half goals from Raul Jimenez, Daniel Podence and Pedro Neto saw the English side run out 3-0 winners.
However, it seems as though Jonny caught the eye in particular, as he showed a ‘newfound’ ability in understanding how to pick up ‘clever positions in midfield’.
In the Wolves player ratings for BirminghamLive, Dicken explained as much by giving the player an 8/10 player rating, saying: “Jonny is looking superb in pre-season and flew forward at every opportunity. The precision of his crosses from the right is impressive, as is his newfound knack for taking up clever positions in midfield.”
Will Jonny Otto play a key role for Wolves this season?

TIF Thoughts on Jonny Otto and Wolves…
Last season, Jonny’s involvement was severely hampered by a major knee injury which meant he didn’t feature in the Premier League until the end of February. However, after returning to fitness, he became a regular in the team and ended the campaign with 10 consecutive league appearances (via Transfermarkt).
Across the span of his career, the 28-year-old has primarily played as a left-back, but it seems as though he could be asked to push a little more into midfield areas this season judging by Dicken’s latest report – although that doesn’t necessarily mean he won’t still mainly operate as a full-back.
Either way, having seemingly impressed in pre-season, it looks as though the Spaniard could be set to play a key role for Wolves over the coming months.
