Dan Cook has been speaking on the HLTCO podcast about Crystal Palace’s pursuit of transfer target Aaron Wan-Bissaka.
It has been reported that Wan-Bissaka is now surplus to requirements at his current club, which has led to Palace – the side he left in 2019 – being linked with a sensational move to bring the defender back to Selhurst Park.
Palace managed to sell their academy graduate for £45m three summers ago but may be able to sign him for much less due to him not being needed at Manchester United, but while this would be an emotional reunion, current manager Patrick Vieira has no personal connection to Wan-Bissaka.
This is what Cook believes could see the French boss being against a potential deal.
He said: “The Patrick Vieira revolution has got underway, and you could make an argument to say that Aaron isn’t necessarily that suited to the style of football we want to play.
Would you like Palace to sign Wan-Bissaka?
Yes!
No!
“Of course, the personal history that Wan-Bissaka has with the football club, you would assume would spin it somewhat in his favour, but Patrick Vieira has no personal relationship with Aaron that I’m aware of – he has no loyalty to him. And he may well veto the decision if it’s going to mean a sizeable portion of any future transfer budget is taken up by his signature.”
TIF Thoughts on Wan-Bissaka potentially returning…
It would likely be an emotionally motivated move for Wan-Bissaka because of his connection with Palace, however, with reports suggesting that Palace would be more open to a loan move, it could yet fit into Palace’s transfer budget.
Therefore, it remains to be seen whether or not Wan-Bissaka will end up back at Selhurst Park, but with Vieira already having Joel Ward and Nathaniel Clyne as options in that position, it appears unlikely as things stand.
