Journalist Alasdair Gold has revealed that Tottenham Hotspur are hoping to officially announce the signing of Cristian Romero.

Last summer, Spurs made an agreement with Atalanta to bring the defender in on a season-long loan deal with an option to buy for £42.5m (via football.london).

As of yet, though, that option to buy has not been publicly triggered, leading to concern and speculation about what could actually be happening with regard to the player’s future.

However, while speaking on his YouTube channel, Gold explained that Tottenham are in fact planning on doing ‘some kind of an announcement’ – so it looks like any fears can be put to bed.

The journalist said: “Hopefully, we’ll have the Romero announcement soon. It’s one of those where I wondered whether just naturally, it would kind of become the permanent move.

“But I understand Spurs are hoping to do some kind of announcement or something. So keep an eye on that.”

TIF Thoughts on Cristian Romero and Spurs…

Interestingly enough, Romero recently seemed to confirm his own commitment to the club with an Instagram post of him in the new home kit, with a caption that read: “Ready for next season.”

And he won’t be the only one hoping he can kick on at Spurs next term, with Ben Davies noting how he had ‘really clicked‘ with Romero since his arrival as the Tottenham defence hit top form towards the end of the campaign.

However, without any official confirmation, some fans may still fear something going wrong behind the scenes at the last moment.

Considering the centre-back was pretty impressive for the club last term – earning an average SofaScore match rating of 7.15 in the Premier League – it’s not hard to see why supporters will be so keen on him staying.

Now though, if Gold’s latest update is to be believed, it certainly seems as though it’s just a matter of time before Romero’s transfer is officially rubber-stamped, with the details seemingly just a formality.
