Journalist Alasdair Gold has expressed his sadness that Steven Bergwijn is leaving Tottenham Hotspur before fulfilling his potential.
According to football.london, the Dutch attacker is set to join Ajax for a €32.5million (£27.8m) fee, with the former PSV man set to now do his medical. And, Fabrizio Romano has reported it’s all done.
With Bergwijn’s exit now seemingly imminent, Tottenham journalist Rob Guest shared the new on his Twitter. Gold then retweeted his colleague’s update, while adding his own personal take on matter.
He wrote: Sad to see Stevie B [Bergwijn] heading off, even if Spurs could get almost £28m all in for him. Still feel there’s big things to come in his career, but he needs to play. Ah well, we’ll always have that night at the King Power Stadium.

TIF thoughts on Steven Bergwijn and Spurs…
The 24-year-old scored eight goals in his 83 appearances in all competitions for Tottenham (via Transfermarkt). Considering he joined the club for £27m back in 202o, it’s safe to say he didn’t quite live up to expectations.
However, as Gold alludes to, he certainly had some big moments. One such, was that memorable win over Leicester City last season, when he scored two injury-time goals late on to seal a dramatic 3-2 comeback win.
No doubt, stunning incidents such as that is what has caused Gold to feel rather disappointed by how it has all turned out for Bergwijn in north London. It will certainly be interesting to see if the Dutchman is a success at Ajax, and if those predicted ‘big things’ do come somewhere down the line.
If the rumours are true then I’m fuming at Lenglet coming in and Rodon being kicked out!!!!
