Journalist Paul Brown has claimed that the takeover at Everton Football Club is not looking likely to take place this summer before the season starts.

There have been recent reports that Farhad Moshiri has walked away from talks over a potential takeover at Everton as he turned his attention to securing funding so that he can improve the squad for next season and amid the Toffees’ move to their new stadium.

Everton struggled immensely last season as they only just managed to stay in the Premier League, finishing four points above the relegation zone when a winner from Dominic Calvert-Lewin in the penultimate game was enough to ensure safety.

Despite the talks of a takeover happening at Everton, Brown spoke to GiveMeSport and claimed that the deal does not look like it is going to be resurrected because the period of exclusivity has run out.

He said: “When your period of exclusivity runs out and you’re no closer to striking a deal than you were at the beginning of that term, it doesn’t really look good for you as a group.

“It doesn’t seem to me like that one’s going to be resurrected, personally,” Brown said.

TIF Thoughts on Brown’s comments…

Despite their struggles last season, Everton have only managed to make one summer signing – with James Tarkowski joining on a free transfer after his contract expired at Burnley following their relegation to the Championship. However, proceedings might be able to run more smoothly now that Moshiri has his full focus on seeking investment.

Richarlison was recently sold to Tottenham Hotspur for £60m, so Frank Lampard might be able to use some of the funds accrued from the Brazilian forward’s sale to invest in the rest of the squad before the new season starts to ensure that they have a more successful campaign next term.
