Journalist Ryan Taylor has been blown away by the summer business Tottenham Hotspur look set to complete ahead of the new season.

Earlier this week, Spurs completed the signing of Brazil forward Richarlison on a five-year deal believed to be worth £60m. That deal comes alongside moves already sorted for the likes of Ivan Perisic, Fraser Forster, and Yves Bissouma.

On top of that, it looks as though Djed Spence and Clement Lenglet could also be arriving in north London soon enough too, and this has left Taylor rather impressed.

Indeed, the journalist took to Twitter to praise Tottenham, writing: “Ivan Perisic, Fraser Forster, Yves Bissouma, Clement Lenglet, Richarlison & Djed Spence for a total outlay of around £105m (give or take) – all before pre-season tour of South Korea – would represent phenomenal business from Tottenham. Statement of real intent.”

TIF Thoughts on Spurs and the transfers…

It’s interesting to see Taylor point out the importance of getting these transfers done nice and early so that the new signings have time to take part in pre-season.

Journalist Charles Watts recently made a similar statement about Arsenal and their possible new signing Gabriel Jesus, so it’s clearly something that could make a big difference in how easily players adapt to their new surroundings.

However, price is key for Taylor too in this potential ‘phenomenal business’. With Perisic and Forster coming in for free, and Lenglet set to come in on loan, Antonio Conte has been able to add great depth at little cost.

This has afforded Spurs the freedom to then go out and spend on more expensive players like Bissouma and Richarlison. All in all, it’s not so hard to see why Taylor feels as though Tottenham have made a statement already this summer.
