Journalist Dean Jones has claimed that Manchester United are going to push for Antony again soon in this summer transfer window.

According to talkSPORT, United are still hopeful of luring Brazilian winger Antony to the Premier League this summer. However, the Red Devils could be put off the deal due to Ajax putting a £70m price tag on him which has slowed proceedings.

Antony was in fine form for Ajax last season under current United boss Erik ten Hag, he featured 32 times in all competitions for the Dutch side, whilst scoring 12 times and chipping in with a further 10 assists, which is likely why the United boss is keen to reunite with him at Old Trafford.

Despite reports stating that United might have been put off by the price tag set from Ajax, Jones spoke to GiveMeSport and claimed that the Manchester club are going to push to get this transfer over the line soon.

“I’m starting to hear noise around a United offer for Antony again. It had gone quiet recently but maybe they are going to push this soon,” Jones said.

TIF Thoughts on Jones’s comments…

Manchester United have signed three new players in this summer transfer window, Christian Eriksen and Lisandro Martinez have both spent time with Ajax in the past, and Tyrell Malacia spent last season in the Eredivisie with Feyenoord. So it is clear to see the approach that Ten Hag is going down by signing players who he has a good understanding of due to their connection to Dutch football.

Do you think Antony is worth £70million?

Signing Antony would stick to this method of bringing new players in, but it depends on whether the club would be happy to potentially spend £70m on one player after they have already spent just over £65m on their new additions.

With that in mind, unless Ten Hag can get that asking price down, the transfer may be a major challenge to complete.
