Image for Manchester United: Jones drops update on Martial

Manchester United could give Anthony Martial another run in the team if “he’s willing to give absolutely everything” ahead of the upcoming Premier League campaign.

That is according to Dean Jones, who was talking to This is Futbol about Manchester United’s summer plans, with the Premier League kick-off less than a month away.

Martial spent the second half of last season on loan in La Liga with Sevilla, with his Manchester United career seemingly coming towards a conclusion.

The 30-time France international had struggled to get into the Red Devils side on a regular basis during the first half of the campaign, making just 11 appearances for United and scoring just one goal in that time.

But Martial, who has previously been labelled as “world-class” by former United striker Robin van Persie, has reportedly impressed in pre-season so far, and even grabbed a goal for himself in Erik ten Hag’s first match in charge of the club as United secured a 4-0 friendly victory over rivals Liverpool in Bangkok.

And Jones believes that there may be a chance that the £36m signing could get another chance for respite at United this season.

He said: “It’s not easy to recapture your form when you’ve been off it for so long like he has.

“But he has done well in pre-season and I think there’s a chance here.

“If he’s willing to give absolutely everything to make this a success, you never know.”

TIF Thoughts on Jones’ comments…

We believe that it would be in both Martial’s and Manchester United’s best interests to see what happens this season if the 26-year-old carries on impressing under Ten Hag.

If the former Monaco man can keep performing to a high standard under the new manager, he could save the club lots of money, with the Red Devils not having to buy another wide forward.

As well as this, the club are in the Europa League this season, so will need some squad depth to compete on multiple fronts, and Martial could be ideally suited for this role.

In a big season ahead for both player and club, it would be fantastic for both if they could complement each other during the new campaign.
