Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag is now expected to try Marcus Rashford as a centre-forward over the 2022/23 campaign.

This has been suggested by journalist Dean Jones, who has been discussing the latest transfer news in his latest post on the Ranks FC Patreon page.

It is believed the Red Devils have their eyes set on strengthening their attacking options this summer, with Ajax’s Antony believed to be one of the players on their radar.

However, this could ultimately leave Rashford being pushed even further down the pecking order at Old Trafford after what was a difficult 2021/22 campaign for the 24-year-old.

But Jones believes the new manager at Old Trafford could now look to utilise Rashford more often as a centre-forward this coming season, with the forward arguably in need of a clean slate following his poor outing last term.

Jones said: “I have been told Ten Hag might try Marcus Rashford as a centre-forward in pre-season to build his confidence, so that could be a short-term solution while they also go after Antony.”

TIF Thoughts on Jones’ comments…

This is certainly an interesting suggestion and one we would be interested to see in practice, especially given the ongoing debacle with Cristiano Ronaldo.

Should MUFC just sell Rashford this summer?

However, we do feel this comes with a slight risk considering Rashford now only has one year remaining on his current deal with the Red Devils.

It had been reported earlier this summer that Tottenham Hotspur were interested in potentially taking Rashford off their hands.

So, with this in mind, if this idea from Ten Hag fails to work, it could well see United lose the 24-year-old next summer as his contract winds down to its conclusion.
