Journalist Ryan Taylor has claimed that Wolverhampton Wanderers have held negotiations with Sporting over a deal for Matheus Nunes.
Wolverhampton Wanderers have reportedly held talks with Sporting over a move to the Premier League for Matheus Nunes this summer, however, they face competition from Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain who are also interested in the 23-year-old.
Nunes was a mainstay in the Sporting side last season, he made 50 appearances in all competitions, including six in the luxurious Champions League where he made two assists.
Despite Wolves reportedly holding talks with Sporting over a move to Molineux for the Portuguese midfielder, Taylor has claimed to GiveMeSport that there are doubts whether he would want to join Wolves, especially with Manchester City showing interest.
“There has been talk that the likes of Manchester City could have a look at Nunes, but Wolves have actually held negotiations with Sporting over a deal.
“There’s elements of doubt as to whether he would be prepared to join them, even if they struck an agreement. That would be a club-record deal,” Taylor said.
Do you think Nunes will join Wolves?
TIF Thoughts on Taylor’s comments…
Wolves had a chance at securing European football last season, but after a disappointing end to the season, they ended up finishing 10th in the table meaning they have no European football to contend with next season, which could possibly have an impact on the calibre of players they could sign this summer.
It could be hard to see Nunes join Wolves this summer, as he played in the Champions League last term, so dropping out of that to play no European football would not make a great deal of sense.
Especially with Manchester City showing interest in him, it would make more sense to join the Premier League champions, over a side that finished 10th in the league, but the Portuguese links at Molineux could give Bruno Lage a fighting chance at signing him.
