Tottenham Hotspur left wing-back Ryan Sessegnon has taken to Instagram to show that he is working hard during the off-season to make sure he is fit for when training with the squad resumes.
Sessegnon was in and out of the team last term for Tottenham in the Premier League, making 15 appearances, with 13 of those coming from the start, registering two assists as he enjoyed a late-season run in the starting XI.
The English 22-year-old broke into the Fulham first-team at just 16 years old, and in the 2017/18 season, he was impressive during their promotion-winning campaign as he scored 16 goals and registered eight assists in 49 games.
However, Sessegnon had failed to cement his place in the Spurs side since making the switch to north London and was sent out on loan to Hoffenheim in the 2020/21 season in search of regular first-team football, and racked up 29 appearances in all competitions.
And with the signing of Ivan Perisic, Sessegnon’s first-team place may now come under threat. He has since taken to Instagram to show he is working hard in the hope that he can fight for a starting slot next term:
TIF Thoughts on Ryan Sessegnon…
Perisic’s arrival from Inter on a free transfer could be bad news for Sessegnon as he might have just seen himself slip back down the pecking order so soon after having replaced Sergio Reguilon in the Spurs first XI. The Croatian wing-back is someone who Antonio Conte has worked with previously and trusts, so this may also work against him.
However, with Spurs qualifying for the Champions League, rotation might be key for Conte next season, as he will want to find the right balance between resting players between the cup and league games. So Sessegnon may yet feature more regularly in the league, and he can learn from the experience of Perisic, who has notched 41 appearances in the Champions League alone.
