Sky Sports journalist Michael Bridge took to Twitter to share his amazement at Tottenham Hotspur’s Dejan Kulusevski after footage emerged of his goal while on international duty with Sweden.
The Swede joined Spurs in the January transfer window from Italian giants Juventus on an 18-month loan deal which includes a £25m option to buy, which will increase to £33.5m if the north London outfit wait until the loan expires. Safe to say, after his performances this season, they might not do so.
It would now appear that Kulusevski’s form has not dipped since the end of the domestic season as the winger is shining for his home country of Sweden in the Nations League, scoring the second goal in the side’s 2-0 away victory over Slovenia.
The goal in question has caught the eye of Sky Sports’ Bridge, who reacted to a clip of the goal on Twitter, which sees the Spurs ace take on one of the Slovenia defenders one-on-one, taking the ball past him with great skill and then blasting the ball into the back of the net from a tight angle past Atletico Madrid goalkeeper Jan Oblak.
Bridge wrote on Twitter: “Arguably the best signing of the January window. Wow. What a future he has.”
TIF Thoughts on Kulusevski…
There is no doubt that Kulusevski has impressed during his short stint at Spurs so far, with former Spurs star Paul Robinson citing his praise to Football Insider back in March.
He said: “Oh, he’s certainly hit the ground running.
“He looks a real player. He fit the system Conte plays perfectly. Coming in off the right-hand side onto his left foot, he’s such a threat. He has an ability to pick a pass.”
The Swede certainly did hit the ground running in north London, picking up five goals and eight assists in his 18 appearances for the Lilywhites, helping them beat bitter rivals Arsenal to fourth in the Premier League table and securing them Champions League football next season.
In these 18 appearances, he averaged 1.4 shots, 1.4 key passes and 1.4 dribbles per game, with 1.1 tackles and 0.7 interceptions per game on the defensive side of the ball (WhoScored).
He has shown he can do it all for Spurs, attacking dynamically with Harry Kane and Son Heung-min as well as helping off the ball, making life easier for the bombing full-backs that boss Antonio Conte loves to use. Bridge is certainly right that Kulusevski has a great future on his hands based on his start to life in the Premier League.
