Tottenham Hotspur are in negotiations with Villarreal over a potential deal for the services of Giovani Lo Celso.
That is according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, who has been speaking on the latest episode of his Here We Go podcast to discuss the Argentinian’s future.
Lo Celso departed north London back in January as he headed off to Unai Emery’s side on a short-term loan deal, where he became a prominent feature.
Although his loan deal with the La Liga side is set to expire in the coming weeks, there is a belief his time with the Lilywhites is also at an end, with Antonio Conte having no plan of using the 26-year-old.
Whilst out on loan, Lo Celso has made 22 appearances, but has only been able to provide one goal and one assist, though it seems Emery is keen to keep him at the Estadio de la Ceramica.
Romano said: “Some reports of an agreement reached between Tottenham and Villarreal for Lo Celso: no – there is still nothing agreed between Tottenham and Villarreal for Gio Lo Celso. But Villarreal want him, so negotiations [are] ongoing for Lo Celso to stay at Villarreal for one more season.”
TIF Thoughts on Romano’s comments…
This will be music to the ears of a lot of Spurs fans going into the summer, as a player who is believed to be on significant wages potentially heading out of the club.
Does Lo Celso deserve another chance at Spurs?
Yes
No
Adding to that, it is believed Spurs are wanting in the region of €20m (£17m) for the midfielder, so there will likely be more funds made available for Conte to bolster his squad.
Lo Celso only made seven appearances under Conte, and having been purchased for around £55m in total, this shows Daniel Levy is willing to take a significant loss to keep the Italian happy in N17.
