Tottenham Hotspur target Alessandro Bastoni is believed to be keen on the prospect of playing under Antonio Conte again.

This has been suggested by Alasdair Gold, who has been discussing all things transfer-related in a Q&A session for

It is reported Spurs have identified the Inter centre-back as their top priority this summer with Conte looking to strengthen his options at the back.

There have been some suggestions the Italian would need some convincing to leave the San Siro this summer to make the move to north London.

However, Gold believes Conte could play a huge role in the possible signing of Bastoni this summer, with the 23-year-old believed to be keen on a reunion with his former manager at some point.

He wrote: “There’s two sides to this one in that Alessandro Bastoni is understood to be keen to play under Antonio Conte again at some point, but he is happy at the moment at Inter Milan and it’s worth remembering that he only just turned 23 last month, so he’s young in terms of his career and uprooting from Italy. For someone like Romero, he had already uprooted from his homeland.”

Do you expect Bastoni to sign this summer?

TIF Thoughts on Gold’s comments…

We feel this is a move which Spurs should be throwing everything at this summer to get over the line, with Bastoni also believed (via Manchester Evening News) to have caught the attention of Manchester City.

The stats appear to suggest 23-year-old would provide Spurs with an improved aerial defence, with set pieces proving a real thorn in their side over the course of the 2021/22 campaign, while the likes of Ben Davies had to slot into a centre-back role last term – so it is easy to see how the Italian could be considered an upgrade.

Bastoni has proven himself to be one of Europe’s most promising defenders, and with 74 appearances under Conte, it is apparent the Spurs manager feels he would be a great fit for the Lilywhites.
