Tottenham Hotspur’s attentions will already be turning to the summer transfer window as they are set to embark on another adventure in the Champions League after Antonio Conte guided them back to the top table of European football.
One transfer that has been rumoured for a while is a return to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium for Christian Eriksen. 90min reported that Spurs were confident in re-acquiring the Danish ace’s services should Conte remain at the club.
After securing Champions League football with the club, you’d expect to see Antonio Conte in the dugout next season, although football can be a strange place! So if 90min are to be believed, the move could well be on.
However, that doesn’t look like being the case anymore after Michael Bridge’s latest update. The Sky Sports man was talking to GiveMeSport and claimed the following: “He kept Brentford up really, they were really dropping, people forget that, so if anyone says Eriksen has turned his back against Brentford. Yes, they took a chance, but they were really dropping, and they were unbeaten until they lost at Manchester United. So, if he moves on, no one can begrudge him and if he’s offered an opportunity in the Champions League he should take it. But I did the Brentford Q&A awards last Thursday, and he kind of gave me the impression that [Tottenham] is a non-starter.”
Do you want Eriksen back at Spurs?
TIF thoughts on Michael Bridge’s comments…
If that’s the impression Eriksen is giving himself it doesn’t seem like a transfer could be on the cards, however, given the context of Bridge’s chat with him, it could just be Eriksen was trying to be respectful to his current employers rather than speculating on his own future.
The Danish midfielder has been key to Brentford this season, scoring once and assisting four in his 11 games for the club, playing a key role in their Premier League survival.
