Journalist Dean Jones has claimed that Tottenham Hotspur could back out of the Djed Spence proceedings if things don’t start moving quickly.

There have been reports stating that Tottenham Hotspur are keen on bringing Djed Spence to the club this summer, and Middlesbrough have supposedly agreed on a deal with the North London club over a move to Spurs for the 20-year-old.

Spence spent last season on loan with Nottingham Forest in the Championship, he played a key role in their promotion-winning campaign to the Premier League, after making 46 appearances in all competitions for Forest, and his impressive performances were enough to earn him a place in the Championship Team of the Season.

Despite there reportedly being a deal agreed between Middlesbrough and Spurs, Jones claimed to GiveMeSport that the North London club could pull out of the deal if things don’t do the way they want.

“One source is telling me that Spurs could back out of the Spence deal if things don’t start moving the way they want.

“They have fall-back plans so it’s not like they will wait for him at all costs. I understand they have made that clear to Boro so this feels like a key time for this deal to start moving,” Jones said.

TIF Thoughts on Jones’s comments…

Spurs have already signed three players this transfer window after they qualified for the Champions League so Antonio Conte is keen on upgrading the squad, and he might be keen to bring in a new right-wing back after Matt Doherty and Emerson Royal were not in the best form last season.

Spence would be a good option for Spurs after his impressive performances last term, but Conte might be interested in sorting his squad out as soon as possible, so if there is a halt in proceedings and Middlesbrough are holding up the deal, then he might look elsewhere.
