Sky Sports presenter Joe Thomlinson has been reacting to the news that Manchester United have made Christian Eriksen an offer ahead of a proposed move to Old Trafford.

Eriksen joined Brentford on a six-month contract back in January and made a remarkable comeback to football as he inspired the Bees to a commendable 13th-placed finish with one goal and three assists in the final eight games of the season.

He trained with Erik ten Hag at Ajax ahead of a return to action and may have built an understanding with the new Manchester United boss – and it appears clear that Ten Hag sees potential in a move given the latest update.

Journalist David Ornstein recently revealed that United have made an offer to sign the Dane after his contract at the Bees expired, but insisted that there are a number of clubs interested and that the Red Devils’ focus remains on bringing Frenkie de Jong to the club.

However, Thomlinson certainly seems to be excited by the possibility of a deal bringing Eriksen to Old Trafford. He posted on Twitter: “Still think that this would be an exceptional signing.

“Extremely professional, amazing creator, lost Mata, Lingard & Pogba, and worked with Ten Hag in his rehab.

“It’s a HUGE opportunity on a free.”

Dubbed a “superstar” by transfer expert Graeme Bailey, the 30-year-old could certainly bring a creative spark that was lacking at Old Trafford during a dismal campaign last term.

He has contributed to 123 goals in the English top flight alone, and his recent displays in a candy-stripe shirt have demonstrated that the quality still lies within the 111-time Denmark international.

With Paul Pogba gone and Bruno Fernandes working to regain his form, Eriksen could bring a consistent rate of goal involvement, as made apparent by his current numbers, while for no fee, it would be a shrewd piece of business should it work out.
